The Change is Me......
These past few weeks have gone by in a blur. Somewhere and somehow, Christmas has come and gone. And now I sit here facing a new year. 2013....I am both excited but also apprehensive too.
You see, since being chosen for the Covenant Marathon team, my life hasn't really changed much (yet). I was exercising before and continue to do so. I was watching what I ate before and am continuing that as well. I continue to work 8:30 to 5 Monday through Friday at a job that is comfortable. I continue to help care for my 90 year old father who insists on living alone. I am married and enjoy spending time with John. All of these things are very important to me, I don't want to give up any of them up....but I am ready for some changes. And that change is me.
So, in 2013, I am going to concentrate a little more on me and a lot more on my long term health. After losing my mother to lung cancer last year, I realize the great importance we have in taking care of the body that God has blessed us with. I will never be the fastest runner out there running but I want to be the fastest runner that I can be. I want to give it my all. I saw this quote the other day on Facebook and it really hit home.
"Your summer body is earned in the winter".
This quote has 2 different (yet perhaps very similar) meanings to me. The first is the literal meaning. Working towards a healthier body in these winter months will certainly show when summer comes. I aim to be leaner and stronger by June! But I also think that there is a second meaning to this quote. That is, our summer body (older age) is earned in our winter years (younger years). Things that we did when we were younger, whether healthy or unhealthy, will certainly play a role in our older years. And I aim to be healthier as I grow older!!!!
Another quote I love is from the bible, "So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up". (Gal 6:9 NLT)
I intend to "not grow weary" in doing the rights things regarding my health, because I know that in the future, I will reap the good rewards.

Spin Class -- 3 weeks in a row!
What a great day. Up at 4:45 am to get to my Spin Class at Ft. Sander's. Who would have thought last year that I would be doing this. What really helped was knowing that a few of my Marathon friends were going to be there too. Accountability means a lot! So, Marathon team, please keep me at my word. If I say I am going to come to a Spin Class -- expect me there! If I say I am going to run 5 miles -- expect me to! Please keep up with me and I will return the favor. We will get stronger together!!!!!
(And to think I might not have tried a Spin Class unless Joe had invited me 3 weeks ago. So, thanks Joe for starting me on the Spin journey. It's been a blast so far!)

Live at Five at Four Appearance
Yesterday, our team was featured on Live at Five at 4. I don't remember ever being on TV before. I was definitely out of my comfort zone. But all in all, it was great. Normally, I like to have things all planned out. But yesterday was anything but! Not only was I on TV, but I had to "jog" on stage, give "high 5's" to my team mates and then I even had to talk on TV too. I am so relieved that my answer made sense and that I didn't just stand there dumbfounded!!!! I have a feeling that for the next 4 months, I will spend lots of time outside of my comfort zone.
Here is our segment from Live at Five.
